lyrics

(What was that? Who’s this album for? Whoever’s listening...)

I was born in 1998
Waiting for Santa Claus, but just a day too late,
Well, as you can tell so far my luck has always been quite great

You’re wondering why I’m putting my life on display
Well I took society’s blessings, and just threw them all away
For a million-to-none chance of making it big on payday

The scum-crusted bathroom where you went and you cried
‘Till the lights’ motion sensors were convinced that you died
And left you all alone in that cavernous stall
Waiting for somebody, just anyone at all
The morning janitor found you drowned in a pool
Blood dehydrated, your skin was so cool
But despite the cataclysm, he could only have sworn
That you were smiling and laughing, just like the day you were born

Suburban anarchy is losing all its charm
And the wrong flag flown is your call to arms
Well you’re not contractually obliged to fight in your father’s war

Some cheap paper determines what you’re worth
And you find out that you’ve been in the bargain bin since birth
And you’ll waste your life in vain trying to break that day one curse

You find yourself praying to every God you get
But every sacred cow, is just another baphomet
It seems that devil slips right through all the holes in your net

You sidewalk shufflers with your eye-gouging signs
Damning all infidels with unholy desires
Your picket lines make good kindle for hungry hellfire

On a mossy hill where you can wish on the stars
But you’ve given up hope ‘cause their egos left them charred
And you could pick on the moon, but not if you value your life
‘Cause the morning sun will chew you out for ranting at her wife
You’re wondering now if you got what it takes
To run the next leg in what the cynics call “the rat race”
Despite the empty sky you find you’re not so forlorn
You’re still smiling and laughing, just like the day you were born

You’re blasting brain cells with trending videos
But you’re not doing crack like all of the no-shows
Yet either way you’ll find that nothing gets done before the day goes

Your favorite pastime is bashing your enemies
You say, “look at those villains, thank goodness I’m me”
Well Karma claims to catch up with the ignorant eventually

And tragedies are your guiding beacon
But I can’t get my rocks off to lynchings and arson
Well at the end of the day I’m just trying to be a little more human

Sacred hearts and suicide pacts
Fingers crossed and knives in backs
Loan sharks and retirement tracks
Self-diagnosis and certified quacks
Do-gooders and hearts that bleed (I’m just tryna be a little more human)
Check to check and get what you need
Here to help and drunk on greed (I’m just tryna be a little more human)
World leaders that still breastfeed
A lifelong friend and a head on your shoulder (I’m just tryna be a little more human)
Just like your dad not a chip off the boulder
Summer breaks and wishing your were older (I’m just tryna be a little more human)
Getting nostalgic and feeling a bit colder
Scared of chains and bit turned on (I’m just tryna be a little more human)
A humble bit of pride and jealous of their lawn
Fully modest and painted neon (I’m just tryna be, I’m just tryna be...)
Only 80 years but it feels like an eon

Oh, how did we let it get this far?
I guess it’s just who we are...
